This series of amulets was initially inspired by objects that I found while cleaning out my new home art studio after a move. In reflecting on the found objects I began thinking about the anxieties that come with having more than enough and the trap of instant gratification. While there are currently trends of minimal living and KonMari organization, there’s still an expectation to buy anything at any time for a low price with little thought to the environmental impact.
Amulets are items to be worn or displayed for particular protections, generally from evil, disease, or other dangers. These amulets give protections that are relevant to my current anxieties and fears. By weaving, glueing, and knotting the found materials from my art studio, I materialized new charged objects that I hope provide a sense of solace for the viewer. Viewers are also welcome to assign their own protection powers based on their own experiences and anxieties.
