DO: The Dirt on Dorian Grey at Counter Pulse

Local artist Samantha Giron isn't afraid to bring up the uncomfortable questions: Career or children? Sex or security? Now or Later? Settle or Fly Away? In her dance program The Dirt on Dorian Gray, she blends contemporary, street dance, electronic music and interviews conducted during her research to talk about up the uncomfortable truth: the Peter Pan Syndrome we all have, in one way or another, here in San Francisco.

I've seen her work a few times and I am always amazed by the choreography and sound scores. Every time I leave in deep thought about my own human experience. The show starts this Friday, July 19th at Counter Pulse, one of my venues -- it's intimate setting helps to connect you as a vistor to the performers and other attendants alike. Do check it out.

Wanderlust Wednesdays: Haight-Ashbury

https://vimeo.com/69580857 Travel time from the mission: About 20-30 minutes on the bus, depends on how crowded the bus is. Ideal trip length: 5 hours. Nice to haves: a tolerance for groups of people with dogs. Directions: Take the 33 from 18th and Valencia and get off on Haight and Clayton, walk to Ashbury.

Haight-Ashbury, San Francisco

Today, a stroll down (upper) Haight is more of an exercise in consumerism and dodging tourists than anything else, but there's still something in the air--besides the smell of pot--that reminds you of its hippie history. I always get a little claustrophobic when I am over there, and I wonder what it would have been like had I been able to stroll 30 or 40 years ago. I probably would have felt the same, but maybe I would be a little less uptight about it.

Wander over sometime to experience what it's like today. It's so close if you live in the city, and worth a stop if you are in town for a visit.

Have you been to Haight-Ashbury? What did it remind you of?

Inspiration: my neighborhood

Study lends a kind of enchantment to all our surroundings.Honoré de Balzac

Mission, San Francisco

It is easy to forget where you are when you are going about the day-to-day. I sometimes forget how amazing my neighborhood is and how much inspiration I get from it everyday. Here's peak at things I see all the time from my point of view.

When was the last time you took a look around where you live? The things you pass by daily?
